Yunjae nasceu com uma condição neurológica chamada alexitimia, ou a incapacidade de identificar e expressar sentimentos, como medo, tristeza, desejo ou raiva. Ele não tem amigos ― as duas estruturas em forma de amêndoas localizadas no fundo de seu cérebro causaram isso ―, mas a mãe e a avó lhe proporcionam uma vida segura e tranquila. O pequeno apartamento em que moram, acima do sebo da mãe, é decorado com cartazes coloridos com lembretes de quando sorrir, quando agradecer e quando demonstrar preocupação.

Então, no seu décimo sexto aniversário, véspera de Natal, tudo muda. Um ato chocante de violência destrói tudo que Yunjae conhece, deixando-o sozinho. Lutando para lidar com a perda, o garoto se isola no silêncio, até a chegada do problemático colega de escola Gon.

Conforme começa a se abrir para novas pessoas, algo se modifica lentamente dentro dele. Quando suas novas amizades passam a apresentar níveis de complexidade, Yunjae precisará aprender a lidar com um mundo que não compreende e até se colocar em risco para sair de sua zona de conforto.

This story is, in short, about a monster meeting a monster. One of the monsters is me.

Yunjae was born with a neurological condition called alexithymia, or the inability to identify and express feelings such as fear, sadness, desire, or anger. He has no friends ― the two almond-shaped structures located deep in his brain caused this ― but his mother and grandmother provide him with a safe and peaceful life. The small apartment they live in, above their mother's used bookstore, is decorated with colorful posters with reminders of when to smile, when to be grateful and when to show concern.

Then, on his sixteenth birthday, Christmas Eve, everything changes. A shocking act of violence destroys everything Yunjae knows, leaving him alone. Struggling to deal with the loss, the boy withdraws into silence, until the arrival of his troubled schoolmate Gon.

As he begins to open up to new people, something slowly changes within him. When his new friendships begin to present levels of complexity, Yunjae will need to learn to deal with a world he doesn't understand and even put himself at risk to get out of his comfort zone.
