문자의 힘을 일찍이 간파한 임금 세종과 그가 만든 문자 ‘훈민정음’에 대해 풀어 쓴 청소년 교양서로 훈민정음의 창제 원리는 물론, 세종이 새 문자의 필요성을 느끼게 된 사회적 배경, 많은 난관을 이겨 내며 훈민정음을 만들고 반포한 사연과 한글의 우수성까지 문자 안팎에 얽힌 이야기들을 조목조목 짚어 내었다. 이 책은 한글 창제 원리만을 단편적으로 서술하는 데에 그치지 않고, 세종이 한글을 창제.반포하기까지 고민했던 내용까지 다루고 있다. 세종이 정치적.사회적인 사건을 겪고 공부하며 새 문자의 필요성을 느끼게 된 과정을 설득력 있게 그려 내었다. 실록을 바탕으로 한 역사적 에피소드에 약간의 픽션이 더해지며 독자들이 한글 창제 과정을 생생하게 알 수 있도록 구성하였다.

각 장의 시작에는 ‘세종에 묻다’, 끝에는 ‘이야기 주머니’를 배치하여 읽는 재미를 주었다. 현대의 중학생 ‘훈민’이와 ‘정음’이가 조선 초기로 날아가 세종에게 궁금한 것을 질문하는 형식으로 구성된 만화 ‘세종에게 묻다’는 각 장의 내용과 자연스럽게 이어져 독자들이 흥미를 느끼고 각 장의 내용을 읽어 보도록 이끈다. 또한, 친근하고 귀엽게 묘사된 세종이 눈길을 사로잡는다. ‘이야기 주머니’는 역사적 에피소드에 저자의 상상력을 가미하여 실제로 있었거나 있음직한 이야기를 서술하였다. 한글과 관련해 알아두면 좋을 상식들이 이야기 곳곳에 녹아 있어 청소년들이 부담없이 읽을 수 있다.

King Sejong's grand dream contained in the creation of Hangeul! Our Hangeul story that every teenager should know

It is an educational book for youth written about King Sejong, who understood the power of letters early, and 'Hunminjeongeum', a character he created. It not only explains the principle of creation of Hunminjeongeum, but also the social background that made King Sejong feel the need for a new character, and overcame many difficulties to create and publicize Hunminjeongeum. From one story to the excellence of Hangeul, the stories related to the inside and outside of the characters were pointed out piece by piece. This book does not stop at describing only the principles of the invention of Hangeul in fragments, but also covers the contents of King Sejong's contemplation until he invented and distributed Hangeul. Sejong convincingly portrayed the process of experiencing political and social events and feeling the need for new characters while studying. A little bit of fiction is added to historical episodes based on the annals, so that readers can vividly know the process of creating Hangeul.

At the beginning of each chapter, ‘Ask Sejong’ and at the end, a ‘story bag’ were placed to give fun to read. Modern middle school students 'Hunmin' and 'Jungeum' fly to the early Joseon Dynasty and ask questions to King Sejong. In addition, Sejong, portrayed in a friendly and cute way, catches the eye. 'Story Pocket' describes a story that actually happened or is likely to have occurred by adding the author's imagination to a historical episode. Common sense that is good to know about Hangeul is melted throughout the story, so teenagers can read it without any burden.
